This supplement issue of the Annals of Thoracic Medicine includes the 2008 Lung Cancer Guidelines developed by the Lung Cancer Guidelines Committee (LCGC).
The LCGC members are physicians from various subspecialties related to the field of thoracic oncology and representing leading medical institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The members also represent the Saudi Oncology Society and the Saudi Thoracic Society (List below).
These guidelines were developed using evidence-based medicine and presented in an easy-to-follow format with supporting manuscripts. These are not convenience guidelines as they include the state-of-the-art care and it was left to the institution or to the practitioners to develop their local pathways dependent on their resources and priorities.
Furthermore, the practitioner has to take into account the transition to adopting a new staging system until such guidelines are updated accordingly.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the LCGC members for their collaborative efforts and hard work that resulted in bringing these guidelines to light.
